Specific research direction:
The research approach of bottom-up synthetic biology is to use non living substances such as DNA molecules, protein molecules, etc., to artificially reconstruct cellular functions through self-assembly, and to understand life by constructing life. This research approach has promoted the rapid development of the field of artificial synthetic cells in the past 20 years. At present, researchers have summarized the basic characteristics that artificial cells should possess (metabolism, energy supply, DNA replication, cell growth and cell division, etc.), and have artificially reconstructed single functional modules. However, there is little research on how to effectively integrate single functional modules to achieve the coupling of artificial cell functions. The main factor limiting the coupling of functional modules is the lack of theoretical guidance for the integration of artificial cell functions, and debugging coupling conditions greatly increases the complexity and difficulty of manual reconstruction. Among them, the coupling of cell division and DNA separation is crucial for normal cell growth and reproduction. This project intends to use phase separation coupling of cell division and DNA separation in an artificial system.

(1) Job Description
1. Conduct research on the functional coupling of artificial cells using quantitative experimental methods such as biochemistry and biophysics.
2. Focus on scientific research work and complete postdoctoral research tasks according to plan;
3. Jointly undertake research projects with collaborating supervisors, publish high-level research papers, apply for various research projects and patents;
4. According to the arrangement of the institution, undertake certain team management work.
(2) Application Requirements
1. Has obtained or is about to obtain a doctoral degree;
2. Age ≤ 35 years old, doctoral degree ≤ 3 years, no postdoctoral work in Guangdong Province.
3. Priority should be given to professionals with interdisciplinary backgrounds in biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, molecular biology, and other fields, as well as those with research experience in artificial cells.
4. Strong interest in scientific research, independent research ability, and good English literature reading and writing skills;

Researcher Liu Chenli, doctoral supervisor, winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, currently serves as the vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, the president of the Shenzhen Institute of Synthetic Biology Innovation, the chief scientist of the major scientific and technological infrastructure of Shenzhen Synthetic Biology Research, the executive director of the Chinese Society of Biological Engineering, the national representative of the American Society of Microbiology, the executive director of the Asian Association of Synthetic Biology, the executive editor in chief of Synthetic Biology, the associate editor of Engineering Biology, mLife, the editorial board members of ACS Synthetic Biology, Quantitative Biology, Life Sciences and other magazines. He won the "Young Scientist Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences", "Outstanding Tutor Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences", "Innovation and Breakthrough Award of the Zhongyuan Union Life Medicine Award" and other awards.
The laboratory focuses on the fundamental scientific problem of "cross level emergence of life functions" and adopts a research approach of "quantitative analysis, synthesis and reconstruction", committed to constructing a complete artificial cell cycle. To this end, the laboratory is committed to 1) quantitatively analyzing the principle of functional synergy in living cells, 2) reconstructing key cellular functions in artificial systems, and 3) using mathematical modeling and other methods such as artificial intelligence to assist in parameter screening and mechanism analysis. 4) The relevant principles and technologies generated by this process will be used to modify bacteria and for tumor treatment.
Co-I Introduction:
Fu Meifang, associate researcher of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology and winner of the Humboldt Foundation in Germany, is engaged in the design and construction of artificial cells based on phospholipids, has constructed a variety of artificial cell membranes with unique shapes, and has reconstructed cell division complexes from bottom to top, realizing cell like movement. Published 9 articles as an author in journals such as Nature Physics, Angew Chem Int Ed, ACS Nano, etc
